An entertainment venue since the middle of the 18th century, the Gaîté Lyrique hosted the greatest performers throughout the 19th century and until the middle of the 20th. Requiring considerable renovation work, the space was taken over by the City of Paris which, starting in the 2010s, chose to make it a place dedicated to digital arts and contemporary music. Discover it during your stay at the Hotel Volney Opéra!
A new creative cycle
Last May, the Gaîté Lyrique launched a new five-year creative cycle entitled La Fabrique de l’epoch. The result of a unique alliance between various partners, including Arte France, Actes Sud, makesense, SINGA and Arty Farty, this project combines creation and commitment. With the aim of engaging the public, the Gaîté Lyrique offers concerts, workshops, talks, exhibitions, performances, and screenings, not to mention the stimulating spontaneous exchanges that arise in the bar & café area.
A vibrant and exciting place
There is always something going on at the Gaîté Lyrique. Drop in and check it out while strolling in the neighbourhood. In June, you will find there a sound piece by Jenna Castetbon entitled Do you hear the world?, and an exhibition of the work of the Dysturb photojournalist agency: #WomenMatter, featuring inspiring portraits of women. Make a note of the upcoming events. Marin Fouqué will be discussing his book A la Terre, and the ONG “A voté” will propose a reflection and an exchange of ideas on the theme of elections. Many concerts are also scheduled, reaffirming the venue's commitment to contemporary music.
Paris continues to offer new cultural venues offering eclectic and uninhibited events. Behind the magnificent Second Empire facade of the Gaîté Lyrique, you can discover a dazzling and refreshing programme. The Hotel Volney Opéra team will be happy to advise you on how to get there.
